Lana Platform Boot - Woven Stripe - NASTY GAL

psychedelic

Just ordered these from Nasty Gal...super geeked!!! (obviously)

Not only because it looks like the 70's threw up on these bad boys, but because it's my first "big" purchase after getting a job as a dance teacher for the summer. *sings* I work haaaard for the money.

+700 points

My bestie and I went roaming around Little Five Points in Atlanta today rummaging through the bins in the vintage shops around there. We found some good stuff and came up with a few ideas for a couple of impending tryouts in our future...
I decided to wear a Scott Pilgrim baseball tee I scored from Hot Topic. I went in looking for Harry Potter paraphernalia but I loved Scott Pilgrim so much I couldn't resist! I wore the tee with a pair of cutoffs I made and distressed from a pair of mom jeans I found at a thrift.

The boots are Etienne Aigner and the hat is from JCPenny. My bestie wore this:

It was a fun day!

BA in Journalism...!!!!

Long time no post; I've been busy with graduation festivities! It's finally over now, and I'm left with a "This is the first day of the rest of my life" type feeling. A sort of graduation hangover, if you will. There were two ceremonies: One where I walked across the stage, and the other when I officially "graduated" from Howard. The first night I wore a great Calvin Klein dress I scored at Marshalls:

On Saturday I wore a Jones New York Mauve colored Dress, but you can't really see it:

So now I'm just sharing photos of the "monumental" day...lol.
My favorite fellow graduate:-)

My First Inspiration

This is my mom in the 70's...do we look alike? Since 70's has made a comeback for spring, I thought I would use some inspiration from the actual era! Love you Mom :-)

Overdose

Okay, so I have pictures backed up from the weekend. My camera is hard to work sometimes... My mom decided to buy herself a "vacation" camera over Christmas break last year. It was 4 megapixels more than my then modest 10, so needless to say I negotiated a trade. I'm also into nail polish, makeup, and lots of other things as you will soon learn. I snapped a shot of my week old polish before I took it off:
This is OPI Black shatter over a cheap lime green by NK. It reminded me of the Incredible Hulk, Mountain Dew, and maybe a cool tricked out ride. I chose to call the combo "Dew the Hulk". Lame? Maybe.
Apologies for the insanely close foot shot, but its a great nude color and I wanted it to be seen. It's from OPI's ballerina line for Sephora... "Leotard-Optional". Being a dancer I'm pretty sure I gained a little bit more pleasure than I should have in the clever name!

Come as You Are?

Everyone who goes to church on Easter Sunday traditionally whips out their best AND sometimes most flamboyant dresses, hats, and suits. I decided to wear a blazer that I caught at a thrift last year around this time, but couldn't think of what occasion was appropriate.
Royal Blue + Gold buttons + built in stripe patches + strong shoulder= Love.

Hello, Humidity.

If you live in DC, you pretty much get used to the unpredictable weather...but Geez! One day its sweaters...
Then the next day its near 80 degrees (and usually there is no transition day)! Its hard out here for a fashion enthusiast trying to dress weather appropriately.
Ah well, they say embracing change is the best (and only) way to handle it! xoxoxoxo

Genesis.

My first post! I've wanted to start a fashion blog for about a year now, but haven't found the gumption to go through with it. Well here we are: My name is Shannon White, I'm from Atlanta, GA, and I am about three weeks away from graduating from Howard University undergrad in Washington, DC. More info to come later, but let's get to it. The inspiration for this outfit started with suspenders and kind of exploded from there. I have the slight suspicion I look like a Great Depression Era Farmer...but in a good way (I hope). I was at my boyfriend's church to see a Easter Play... super cute and funny complete with bad over-acting adults and kids forgetting their lines! He is also graduating in a couple of weeks..
